According to the annual report of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in were billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, a decrease of % from the previous year.
The EPA said in its report that the decline can be attributed to a variety of factors, including reduced emissions from electricity generation, improved vehicle fuel efficiency due to fewer miles driven and year-to-year changes in prevailing weather.
The U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks Inventory: - tracks annual greenhouse gas emissions at the national level and presents historical emissions. The inventory, submitted annually to the United Nations Framework Convention on UAE Phone Number Climate Change secretariat, also calculates the amount of carbon dioxide emissions removed from the atmosphere through carbon sequestration in forests, vegetation, soil and other natural processes called "carbon sinks.
The report said greenhouse gas emissions in were % lower than levels.
In , electricity generation accounted for % of greenhouse gas emissions, the largest share of all sources. Emissions from power plants come primarily from burning fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.
Transportation accounts for the second largest share, accounting for % of greenhouse gas emissions. In , industry produced % of greenhouse gas emissions, mainly from burning fossil fuels for energy, but also from some emissions from the chemical reactions required to produce goods from raw materials.
According to the report, emissions from commercial and residential buildings accounted for % of total emissions in , and agricultural emissions accounted for %. In , managed forests and other lands absorbed more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than they emitted, offsetting % of greenhouse gas emissions.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday it would delay finalizing rules limiting greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants and rewrite them to address concerns raised by the power industry.
The agency did not say when the new standards would be released. Rules proposed last March would limit carbon dioxide emissions to , pounds per megawatt-hour. They were scheduled to be completed last Saturday; last week, White House senior climate adviser Heather Zikkal said they would be adopted "in the near future. _________________ Phone Number List |
